What Happens in a Counseling Session?

Problem assessment
The initial assessment usually takes about 45 minutes. During this assessment, the client and counselor discuss the issue and develop a plan of action. The plan of action may include subsequent sessions with the counselor or referral to other resources, taking into consideration the client’s health care coverage, geographic location, and ability to pay.
